We’re in the home stretch now. Just a few more days left until the big one.
Frantic last minute shopping.
Food preparations.
Getting the house ready for guests.
We’re full steam ahead getting prepared.
That’s what the Advent season is all about. This season leading up to Christmas Day is about getting prepared;
For the birth of the Saviour of the world.
For the arrival of the King of kings.
And this King won’t be burdened down with chests full of gold, storage areas to keep all of his treasures, robes made of the finest silk, and a crown worth more money than most of us will see in a lifetime.
No, this King is different.
He’ll come as a baby, vulnerable and dependent on His parents to feed and care for Him.
He’ll serve people instead of demanding to be served.
He’ll have compassion on people instead of using them for His own gain.
He’ll be saying things that will make people in power think He is mentally ill, making them want to stash Him away out of sight and mind.
He’ll be poor.
He’ll be homeless.
He’ll be a lot like the people who come through our doors every day.
In this final week of Advent, in this month of December where compassion and kindness are our missional themes, let us remember to do our best to try and treat everyone we meet as though they were Jesus Himself.
We will continue to strive to be ‘The Hand of God in the Heart of the City’.

Lord of the Christmas season,
You are the King of kings.
Give us courage and strength to prepare for your arrival,
By helping us treat everyone we meet in the same way you treat us.
With grace and forgiveness,
With compassion and kindness.
