Quote from Maya Angelou

Responding With Patience, Gentleness & Grace

There’s a lot going wrong in our world today.

Racism.
Rioting.
Division.
Overdoses.
Shootings.

It’s understandable and ok to get angry. Even enraged.
Sometimes that’s the only right way forward.
I often feel unsure as to how to best respond.
I even feel helpless.

But one thing I do know is that responding to hate and violence with more hate and violence takes us backwards.

So for this last Monday of August let’s try to embrace our themes, our mantra, of patience, gentleness, and grace.
That’s not to say we do nothing about the hate and division of the world. We just do it the more difficult way; with patience, gentleness and grace.

That will help us continue in our striving to be the hand of God in the heart of the city.

Prayer

(slowly)

Patience, gentleness, and grace.

Patience, gentleness, and grace.

Patience, gentleness, and grace.

Lord God,

Give me I pray,

With myself as well as with others,

Patience, gentleness, and grace.

Patience, gentleness, and grace.

Amen
